Earwigs inside the house do not cause any harm or destruction. They are an annoyance or nuisance because of their presence. If disturbed, earwigs may produce a noticeable foul odor. Earwigs found inside the house can be swept or picked up and discarded.
Millipedes are sometimes called "thousand-leggers" because of their many pairs of legs, but they can actually have anywhere from 30-90+ pairs of legs, depending on the species.
This pest is usually blackish or brownish in color, but some are also red, orange or with mottled patterns. They are known for having long, cylindrical and wormlike bodies and antenae.
Some millipede species give off an ill-smelling fluid through openings along the sides of the body.
Centipedes invade homes from the outside. Once inside they thrive and can establish a population if left untreated. Like spiders, they prey on other insects as a food source.
Although ants are seldom involved in disease transmission, their sheer numbers can be overwhelming to homeowners because they prefer to inhabit living areas with moisture such as bathrooms and kitchens and are readily visible to homeowners. The ants are often attracted to food items and become unwelcome guests in homes.
Many spiders indigenous to Pennsylvania will come into homes in the spring & also as the weather turns colder, usually during the early fall months (October-November).
While all spiders possess potentially harmful venom and can bite, it is rare that a bite affects humans because most spider fangs are very small.
